Carbon Cycle

Carbon goes from rocks and soil, dissolves from seawater, goes inside the Earth's crust and in the air as carbon dioxide. This is called the carbon cycle. Animals add carbon dioxide to the atmosphere and plants soak up carbon dioxide during photosynthesis storing the carbon in their cells. Plants especially trees are known as carbon sinks because they take more carbon dioxide then they add to it. Oceans are carbon sinks to because they take up more carbon then they release. When plants and animals die the carbon flows out of their bodies and goes inside the Earth's crust. The carbon is locked up in the crust for millions of years and comes out because of volcanic eruption and that's the carbon cycle.

Founding Fathers: John Adams

John Adams served as 2nd president of the U.S. His cousin was Samuel Adams. John Adams was another very influential Founding Father of the U.S. He was born in 1735 in Massachusetts. After graduating from Harvard University at age 20, he started a career in law. His sharp intellect and wide-ranging knowledge made him one of the brightest minds in the legal field! In 1764, he married Abagail Smith, and they went on to have 5 children including future president John Quincy Adams! Adams argued with words for individual freedom and republicanism. This a kind of government where people elect leaders. Adams opposed The Stamp Act which the British Parliament passed in 1765. John won the 1797 presidential election March 4, 1797 and his presidential term ended March 4, 1801. Adams died the same day as Jefferson.

Founding Fathers:Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson was one of the most influential of the Founding Fathers. influential-to influence you to do something He was the main author of the Declaration of Independence and served as the 3rd U.S president. Thomas was born in Virginia in the year of 1743 to a wealthy family. He loved books and was naturally curious about many subjects.  In 1757 when he was 14 his father passed away. At that young he inherited a 5,000 acre plantation. Slaves also helped construct the Monticello, Jefferson's famous mountaintop estate. Many of the Founding Fathers were slaves owners. It's not mentioned much maybe because it's confusing: fighting for freedom while keeping slaves. It's a valuable reminder that the Founding g Fathers weren't perfect. Jefferson was a respected lawyer by the time he got into politics. In 1769, he was elected to Virginia's colonial legislature, The House of Burgesses. There he spoke out against oppressive laws imposed the 13 colonies by Great

Wheel and Axle

A wheel is a simple machine. For a wheel to do any good it has to rotate on an axle. A wheel and axle is actually a circular lever! Example of a Wheel and Axle: A doorknob is a wheel and axle. The knob is a wheel and the metal rod that connects to the door is the axle. Without a knob it's pretty hard to turn the rod. It takes 100%effort (my opinion) For more information go to Brainpop.com search wheel and axle and enter your username and password and votemaxcarter is signing out.

Cardiovascular/Circulatory System

Your heart, blood, and cells make up the circulatory also known as cardiovascular system. The cardiovascular system is responsible for a cycle that moves blood from your heart then to every part of your body and then back again. At the middle of the cardiovascular system is your heart. Your heart is a muscle that pumps blood through your body and handles 3 kinds of circulation:Your heart has a whole network of blood vessels that brings nutrients in and removes waste products. This is called coronary circulation. Pulmonary circulation is the flow of blood from the heart to the lungs. In the lungs your blood drops out CO2(stands for carbon dioxide) for you to breathe out and picks up oxygen for you to breathe in. The oxygen-rich blood heads back to the heart which brings us to systemic circulation. Systemic circulation brings oxygen to all the cells that needed and removes the waste products like the coronary circulation does.
